Sunday Night Riffs, Featuring the Legend Robert Johnson and Mississippi Delta Blues

March 19, 2012

The sort, somewhat mysterious life of the Mississippi Delta Blues legend, Robert Johnson is fascinating in some ways, sad in ithers. Born may, 8, 1911, in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, to Julia Major Dodds and Noah Johnson, though Dodds was married at the time to Charles Dodds with whom she had 10 previous children. Robert apparently bever knew his biological father, Noah. Johnson seemed to make a point of avoiding any type of menial labor, especially in agriculture, growing up in the deep southern bastion of slavery in Mississippi, a mere 46 years after the end of slavery and the Civil War in 1865.
